Using Go Gift Cards with Shopify POS
While Go Gift Cards is primarily used to enhance your online gifting experience, it is also compatible with Shopify POS. This guide explains how the app works in a retail environment and the differences between online and in-person gift card purchases.
POS Compatibility & Redemption
Go Gift Cards is designed to be fully compatible with Shopify POS. Any gift card issued through our app can be scanned or manually entered at your physical retail locations and redeemed as a payment method, just like a native Shopify gift card.
1. Online Store Scheduling
The scheduling feature ("Send on a future date") utilizes Shopify’s native Online Store recipient functionality. This is implemented on your storefront’s product pages, allowing customers to choose a specific date and time for the gift card to be delivered during the checkout process.
2. Shopify POS Flow
In the standard Shopify POS flow, digital gift cards are emailed when purchased. Because the POS interface is designed for immediate retail transactions, it does not currently provide the built-in recipient fields required to select or "schedule" a delivery for a future date.
Workaround: How to Schedule a Gift for a Customer
If a customer at your physical location wishes to purchase a gift card but have it delivered to a recipient on a future date (such as a birthday or holiday), we recommend the following:
Purchase via Online Store: Direct the customer to complete the purchase through your Online Store website rather than the POS terminal.
Access Scheduling: This ensures they can access the "Send on date" calendar and personalized recipient fields.
Cross-Channel Use: Once the recipient receives their scheduled gift card via email, they can still bring that code into your store and use it at the POS for any in-person purchase!
